My first full teaching post, and the place where most of what I know about classrooms was learned. I taught three subjects across the lower secondary level and looked after one class group from day to day.
What the role involved
- Planned and delivered interactive, activity-based lessons for lower secondary students in Grades 6–8.
- Taught English, Computer Science, and Health across the lower secondary level.
- Assessed progress through classwork, assignments and term examinations, and gave students individual feedback.
- Integrated technology into lessons to support learning, particularly in Computer Science.
- Encouraged critical thinking and problem solving through discussion, group work and practical tasks.
- Served as class teacher for Grades 6–8, managing attendance, records and classroom routines.
- Maintained regular communication with parents about progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
