Computer basics
Parts of a computer, files and folders, keyboard and mouse skills — the things that make everything else possible.
Subject
Taught by Prarthana Khatiwada — lower secondary teacher in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.
Computer Science at the lower secondary level is mostly about familiarity. Many students meet a computer for the first time in a classroom, and the gap between the students who have one at home and the students who do not is real. My job is to make that gap smaller.
I taught Computer Science at Little Moon English Academy as part of my lower secondary timetable, and I use technology in other subjects where it genuinely helps students understand something.

Practical work in MS Word and PowerPoint: formatting, simple layouts, and presenting work to the class.
How to search, how to check what you find, and how to keep personal information private.
Short demonstrations followed by hands-on time, so students do the work rather than watch it.
School leaders and parents who want to know how Computer Science is actually taught in this classroom, and other teachers looking for a starting point. If you would like sample lesson materials or a scheme of work, ask — I am happy to share what I have.
The aim is not to produce programmers in Grade 7. It is to make sure no student is frightened of a computer by the time they leave lower secondary.
